A love story first, in an empire held together by a dragon.
The Mugen Empire is seven islands and a mainland, samurai and sea monsters, priests who can dry a cloak with a word and monks who throw fire. The Emperor is more than a ruler: his bloodline is the tether that keeps the gods’ magic in the world, and the dragon Nawa lives only while he reigns.
Into that world walk two boys who grew up on the same beach. One of them is about to be chosen by the gods. The other would burn the gods down to keep him.
Yoshi is told in both their voices, close and first person, so you are never far from either of them, even when the world pulls them apart.
